The Details

Designed to provide 522ML of increased winter stormwater storage for the region, this project includes 128,000m3 of earthworks and supply and installation of 8,000m3 of rip rap rock. It also includes construction of 500m of DICL and uPVC pipelines up to DN500, power supply upgrade, telemetry systems, pump station upgrade and installation of flowmeters and actuated valves.

The Details

The project required the refurbishment of 16 2ha sludge drying pans in order to upgrade the treatment capacity of the plant. At the peak of works Goldsmith managed the site with over 70 staff including concrete, drainage and electrical subcontractors, working across 12 concurrent work fronts.

Construction activities included:

  • 340,000m3 earthworks
  • 70,000m3 of imported clay placement
  • 34ha of geotextile installation
  • 226,000t of cement treated crushed rock placement
  • 32,000t of crushed rock road construction
  • 6km of new HDPE pipelines up to DN600
  • 3km of new MSCL pipelines up to DN300
  • 48 new concrete inlet and outlet structures complete with actuated valves and penstocks
  • Electrical components including flowmeters, PLC interfaces, power supplies, switchboards, power supply upgrades, telemetry interfaces and a pump station upgrade

The Details

Following on from the success of  the 205W Sludge Drying Pan Refurbishment project, Goldsmith was awarded the design and construct Co-digestion Trial project. This project required the construction of a new pump station complete with associated electrical and pipeline works in order to enable the transfer of food waste from trucks into the main carrier at WTP. The project also included pavement construction and asphalting in order to widen the existing road.

The Details

Following on from the success of  the 205W Sludge Drying Pan Refurbishment project, Goldsmith was awarded the refurbishment of Pan 22. These works involved reworking the existing clay liner and subsequently installing a 300mm thick layer wearing course layer of geogrid reinforced cement treated crushed rock.

The Details

This project involved earthworks and construction of a new rock beached drainage channel including 450dia culvert complete with head walls. It also includes stripping 24,000m3 of overburden material to stockpile in order to expose the rock shelf ready for quarry extraction.

The Details

This project involved the construction of approximately 4.5 km of clay lined channel in order to upgrade the input capacity of the treatment plant. Works included:

  • demolition
  • 300,000m3 of earthworks
  • supply and installation of 25,000m3 of rock and drainage pipework

This job required a very high level of quality assurance for the material specification, compaction, permeability and construction survey control. Goldsmith utilised the most up-to-date automated laser/GPS and total station machine guidance and control system to construct the channels to achieve tolerances approaching +/- 0.01m on large scale earthworks.

The Details

This project involved the construction of new wetlands to help facilitate the residential growth of Officer. It included:

  • 220,000m3 of earthworks
  • installation of large box culverts, wing walls, gabion walls and rock lined channels

This project won the Landscape Architecture award in the Land Management Category of the Victorian State AILA awards; recognising excellence in the built ecology as well as the restoration, conservation, enhancement or maintenance of landscapes.

Murray Goulburn Early Works

The Details

The Murray Goulburn Early Works comprised of the construction of wetland, creek diversion, structural fill and drainage works. It involved:

  • construction of an extensive draining network comprising 1200m of reinforced concrete pipe (up to 1050mm dia.)
  • two twin cell box culverts (2700 x 1500mm) with cast in-situ end walls
  • 66,000m3 of excavation and placement of 93,000m3 of structural fill
  • construction of a 5.6m high soldier pile and sprayed concrete reinforced retaining wall with 250kN permanent ground anchors
  • construction of an industrial pavement and concrete road. This required construction of 6,900m2 of industrial pavement over very poor subgrade

Goldsmith worked closely with the designers and suppliers and carried out a number of trials to deliver the complex rigid pavment structure to meet specified requirements. The project also involved reconstructing part of the intersection of Rifle Range Road and Yarragon Road (A VicRoads Road). Goldsmith were responsible for ensuring council and VicRoads requirements were met including a Traffic Management Plan and Memorandum on consent.

The class 3 crushed rock for this project was sourced from Goldsmith’s Fish Creek Quarry, which enabled greater control over the supply chain, efficiencies and cost savings that were effectively passed on to the client through very competitive construction rates.
